Long Point Monday 14th September

An early start with superb light and a flock of Sandhill Cranes crossing Crown Marsh.

Sandhill Cranes

American Kestrel

A frustrating session of birding and photography as we watched and tried to get shots of warblers and vireos as they moved quickly through the trees and shrubs at Old Cut.

Magnolia Warbler

Red-eyed Vireo

Always fun to watch Red-eyed Vireos as they crashed about foraging in the vegetation.

Bay-breasted Warbler

Grey-cheeked Thrush

We drove out to a new area not too far from Port Rowan called Turkey Point which we had been told was a good place for waders. On this visit there was only a single Killdeer and Greater Yellowlegs visible but plenty of Ringed-billed and American Herring Gulls to look at. We also found a couple of Song Sparrows, Yellow-rumped and a Blackpoll Warblers.

On returning from Turkey Point we sat in the garden for the afternoon and discovered that it was a good place to relax and watch migrating passerines and raptors.
